The Importance of Ethics and Integrity in America

America is the greatest nation on earth.  The majority of Americans today are ethical and conduct themselves with integrity. Acting ethically and with integrity is of paramount importance because it is the foundation for the health and success of our nation.

If we lie to and cheat our fellowman, our nation will become corrupt and fall.  Too many of our ancestors have sacrificed everything they had to build this nation to its current greatness for us to now sit back and let this happen.  Overall our ancestors had the strength of character to look beyond their self interests and put the interest of the nation first.  They realized they were responsible for something larger than themselves.

In our past as well as today there are heated discussions on differing points of view.  Such discussion was and is healthy because it encourages thought and consideration of various aspects of the situation.  At the end of the day however there needs to be a meeting of the minds.  What is best for the nation is the number one priority.

We Americans need to once again become independent thinkers.  Considering all aspects of the situation, listening to multiple view points, dismissing self serving pontifications, and making up our own minds.  We cannot put blind trust in the fact that the government will “take care of us”.  We must watch those we have elected like a hawk, and when they are not acting in the best interest of the nation and doing the job they were elected to do, it is our responsibility to be informed voters and vote them out of office.

When a Government plan, Congressional bill, or a Wall Street deal beome so complex that no one can explain it or understand it, rest assured, it is corrupt and it is the American people who are being used and abused for the self interest of those promoting it.

The more I look into government, at all levels, the more corruption and incompetency I see.  I encourage you to become informed and watch our elected officials carefully.  Vote them out when they seek to advance their own self interests instead of the acting in the best interest of “We the People” -- the citizens of the United States of America.

In light of  recent cyber attacks on Americans, American companies, and our government -- security from homeland terrorism remains the number one domestic issue facing us today.  During the 2010 election I was asked:

What is the greatest domestic policy issue facing the United States and how do you think the US should address it?

My response was, and still is:

Security from homeland terrorism. We are confronted with the potential for several types of terrorist attacks such as; nuclear, biologic, and cyber. A significant strike in any of these areas could cripple our nation for an extended period, negatively impacting our infrastructure, economy, and defense.  Greater federal focus should be placed on prevention and recovery from these types of attacks on our homeland.

Does the President have the authority to command our forces to attack Libya?

When an individual assumes the office of President of the United States, that person takes an oath to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.  That Oath of Office is as follows:

“I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my Ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.”[1]

In this Oath the President promises to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States 100% of the time -- not just when it is convenient for him or her.

The Constitution of the United States is clear concerning which branch of the government has the authority to declare war.

“The Congress shall have Power…To declare War, grant Letters of Marque and Reprisal and make Rules concerning Captures on Land and Water;”[2]

Regardless of the reason, it is in direct violation of the Presidential Oath Of Office for any President of the United States to conduct a war which has not been authorized by the United States Congress.

The President has commanded U. S. Forces to attack Libya without Congressional declaration of War.  From the above discussion, he does not have authority to do so and is in direct violation of his Oath of Office as well as the Constitution of the United States.

As the President continues to take our nation into this war to satisfy his own personal desires, he would be wise to consider  the words of an individual with extensive experience in the area of war--  Sir Winston Churchill.

"Never, never, never believe any war will be smooth and easy, or that anyone who embarks on the strange voyage can measure the tides and hurricanes he will encounter. The statesman who yields to war fever must realize that once the signal is given, he is no longer the master of policy but the slave of unforeseeable and uncontrollable events."

War is defined by the Webster dictionary as:   A state of usually open and declared armed hostile conflict between states or nations.

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE BOEING COMPANY ON THEIR KC-X TANKER CONTRACT WIN!

Today’s Pentagon announcement of the KC-X Award to the Boeing Company is the best news Kansas and the rest of the United States have heard in a long, long time.  This award will not only provide the Air Force with aircraft of the highest quality, designed and built by American workers; it will also provide without exception, all of the capabilities required to support our service men and women, of whom we are so proud, as they perform their sacred duty on battlefields around the world.

This contract award is also a great victory for the American taxpayers, workers and businesses.  Through this award thousands of jobs will be created and sustained throughout our great nation.  Our federal tax dollars, allocated to the Air Force budget, will now be used to pay our own citizens rather than European workers.  Our American workers will in turn spend their earnings in their surrounding home town businesses thereby stimulating the overall U. S. economy.  Boeing will also contract with many suppliers throughout the United States to provide various components required to build these great aircraft.  This action will generate additional work for these American companies and their employees, stimulating our economy to an even greater extent.

Our deep appreciation for this outstanding win goes out to the many men and women at Boeing who worked tirelessly to compose a well thought out design, budget and schedule to provide our fighting men and women with the most capable tanker aircraft in the world today.  Our appreciation also goes out to the many U. S. Senators and Congressional leaders who for so many years have fought to keep this contract in the greatest nation in the world, the United States.

 CONGRATULATIONS!
